Fitness Boot Camp for Teens!

This exciting new class combines weight training and cardio workouts together in one fast paced energetic class. Your teen will love the high energy and pace of the class.

What is Fitness Boot Camp for Teens?
A four-week indoor/outdoor program of fitness instruction, nutritional counseling and motivational training. Your teen will be inspired and have fun while participating in a fantastic workout led by Certified Adventure Fitness Trainer.

What can your teen achieve from camp?
Their body will become more fit and toned, and they will gain more confidence making a dramatic improvement in their physical well-being. The camp program includes exercises designed to condition the total body, reduce body fat and increase stamina. By losing fat and gaining muscle, they may lose inches and gain strength while looking and feeling better. Also, they'll meet other teens who share in the same vision of striving to reach their goals for a healthier mind and body.

Why should your teen participate?
Childhood obesity is reaching epic proportions in most Western countries. At least 15% of children over six years of age are obese and there is no sign of this statistic slowing down. Just like adult obesity, childhood obesity is a medical condition when the child’s body weight is above the recommended weight for their height.

Many blame today’s society that encourages children to eat more and exercise less. Here are some causes:

Little or no physical exercise.
Computers and television have replaced many activities that children used to do.
Many children as young as seven now have their own computers.
Diet.
The prevalence of fast-food restaurants and snacks in vending machines are encouraging children to eat foods high in fat and sugar.
Many affluent families are eating out more and if they take their children, they may go for a burger.
If they eat at home and the parents are obese, the children may not have a well-balanced diet.
Genetics.
If children have overweight parents, it is extremely likely the children will develop obesity. Psychological.
Children can get easily bored or depressed and this can lead to them reverting to food. Also, obese children are often the victim of cruel jibes at school, which can lead to depression and more over-eating.

Boot Camp is designed to benefit all fitness levels at the same time. No one will be left behind or singled out. It is fun and designed for success.

What types of exercises are included in the program?

Exercises include: Core conditioning, short distance running (less than one mile), muscular strength, jumping rope, circuit training, hiking, sport yoga, fitness kick boxing, pilates, sport drills, obstacle courses, surprises, and more.

What is a typical day like at camp?
That's difficult to say since each day is intentionally different to alleviate boredom. They can expect some light running, weight training, obstacle courses, core training and jumping rope each week.  It's always an adventure, and they'll always have fun! We teach them a great deal about proper form and "core stability."

Where is Boot Camp located?
During the cooler months, camp will be held indoors at the Adventure Fitness Studio on the south hill (5915 S. Regal). During the nicer months, we will meet in Manito Park on the south hill.
